ErichHahn automation capabilities

A single control system for a bitumen terminal

ErichHahn automation is intended for integrated control of the process operations of bitumen plants and terminals. It brings equipment, instrumentation, operator workstations, access-control systems, transport logistics and product accounting into a single controlled environment.

This architecture makes it possible not only to operate equipment remotely, but also to monitor safety, track the state of the process, record events, manage transport flows and ensure transparency of terminal operation.

Automation is the basis for reliable, safe and controlled operation of an industrial facility.

A single control system for a bitumen terminal

What the automation system brings together

An automated system may include several interrelated levels:

Process level

Control of equipment, pumps, valves, tanks, heat-transfer circuits, transfer routes and process parameters

Operator level

Operator workstation, mimic diagrams, diagnostic screens, event logs, process-parameter trends, display of equipment status and alarm messages.

Logistics level

Planning of vehicle loading and unloading, generation of orders, transfer of tasks to the process control system, accounting of actual operations, control of stocks and product movement

Access and security level

Pass accounting, control of barriers, gates and turnstiles, recognition of vehicle numbers, photo recording of events and organization of an electronic queue.

Information level

Data exchange with the process control system, integration with 1C:ERP, a document file store and external systems through standard exchange interfaces.

Terminal Automation V2

Process control

Terminal Automation V2 provides automatic control of process equipment in accordance with the regulations for safe process operation. The system processes signals from field instrumentation, transmits data to the process-control server and gives the operator access to the key process parameters.

The system supports automatic routing of transfers from a unit to a tank or from tank to tank, automatic maintenance of product temperature in tanks and heat-transfer circuits, and implementation of process interlocks.

Terminal Automation V2

Safety and control

If the process goes beyond the regulated regime, the system generates warnings and alarms. If emergency conditions are detected, including an emergency product level in the tanks, safe shutdown of the process equipment is provided.

Warnings and alarms

Safe shutdown of equipment

System self-diagnostics

Centralized SMS notification

Terminal Automation V2 also provides self-diagnostics of communication lines and system hardware, generation of equipment-event messages and centralized SMS notification of the main emergency events.

The system does not merely display the process — it helps keep it within safe process limits.

Safety and control

Operator workstation

The operator workstation provides an authorized user with tools for monitoring, setting and remote control of the process.

The operator screens can display:

  • operating modes and status of process equipment;
  • warnings and alarms;
  • current values of process parameters;
  • hierarchically organized process mimic diagrams;
  • diagnostic screens;
  • event logs;
  • trends of process parameters;
  • status of pumps, valves, controllers and discrete-control elements;
  • individual windows for equipment and control elements.

Period selection

Search by keywords and tags

Search by process block

The system makes it possible to monitor user actions, assign access rights and view the message log for a selected period, by keywords, process-control tags and process-block affiliation.

Terminal Access 1C

Access control on the terminal site

Terminal Access 1C is intended for control and management of access to the bitumen terminal site. The system keeps pass records for vehicles and employees, controls access mechanisms and records events related to entry, exit and vehicle movement, and keeps working-time records.

The system can display images from video-surveillance cameras at the entrance, exit and loading/unloading stations, as well as the status of gates, barriers, turnstiles and wickets.

Terminal Access 1C

Transport-flow management

If a pass has been issued and the vehicle number is recognized by video-surveillance cameras, the system can open the barriers for entry and exit automatically.

Terminal Access 1C keeps an access-control event log, including number recognition, barrier opening, entry and exit from the site, pass creation and manual operator actions.

In addition, the system supports photo recording of tare and gross vehicle weighing events at loading stations, as well as number-recognition events and manual barrier opening.

Number recognition

Automatic recognition of vehicle registration numbers by video-surveillance cameras.

Automatic barrier opening

Opening of entry and exit barriers when the number is recognized and a valid pass is present

Event log

Recording of all access events: entry, exit, number recognition, barrier opening, pass creation and operator actions.

Photo recording of events

Photo recording of weighing and gross-vehicle events, number recognition, pass creation and manual barrier control.

Electronic queue

The electronic-queue system informs the driver that the bitumen truck has been placed on standby and, when its turn comes, automatically sends a notification that entry to the terminal site is possible. This prevents vehicles from accumulating in front of the facility, orders transport flows and reduces service time.

Access control becomes part of the overall terminal automation, not a separate security function.

Terminal Logistic 1C

Terminal operations management

Terminal Logistic 1C is a software suite on the 1C:Enterprise 8 platform for managing bitumen-terminal operations. It provides full automation, including planning, document flow, product accounting and process operations, etc.

The system makes it possible to plan vehicle loading and unloading, issue orders for product receipt and dispatch and transfer tasks to the process control system. After operations are completed, data on the actual loading or unloading are recorded in a single 1C:ERP database.

Terminal Logistic 1C

Documents, accounting and quality

Shipping documents

Terminal Logistic 1C supports preparation of product shipping documents, including consignment notes, declarations and quality certificates.

Laboratory tests

The system also makes it possible to record laboratory-test results and generate quality certificates from those results.

Responsible storage

For terminals providing responsible-storage services, accounting of indicators by client and product grade is provided, as well as preparation of reconciliations and other required documentation.

Control of stocks and product movement

The system provides real-time control of stocks and product movement at the terminal. Operational control of terminal sections is also provided, detailed by loading and unloading stations.

Terminal Logistic 1C reports process events and alarm incidents occurring at the terminal, exchanges data with the process control system over MODBUS TCP and provides an API over HTTP for external systems.

Integration into a single process complex

Terminal Logistic 1C is integrated with Terminal Automation. This makes it possible to combine process control, logistics, accounting, documents and terminal events in a single information environment.

ErichHahn automation links the process with the actual operating work of the terminal — from a dispatch order to actual product accounting and document preparation.

  1. Planning

    planning of vehicle loading and unloading.

  2. Operations

    execution of receipt and dispatch operations.

  3. Documents and accounting

    document preparation, product and client accounting.

  1. Terminal Automation

    process control and exchange with the process control system.

  2. Electronic queue system

  3. Terminal Logistic

    management system.

Benefit for the client

The system helps to:

  • control the process in real time;
  • reduce the influence of the human factor;
  • increase the safety of equipment operation;
  • speed up vehicle handling on the terminal site;
  • provide accounting of loading and unloading operations;
  • link process operations with documents and accounting systems;
  • increase transparency of product movement;
  • respond promptly to events and emergencies;
  • integrate the terminal into the enterprise's overall digital infrastructure.

Implementation of automation allows the client to obtain a more controllable, transparent and safe industrial facility.

Discuss the project

Why terminal automation from ErichHahn is required

ErichHahn automation is an integrated tool for managing a bitumen terminal that combines process, safety, logistics and accounting. Such a system helps the client control the facility not in fragments, but as a single industrial complex with a clear management structure, transparent processes and a high level of operational reliability.
